LAOAG CITY: The Philippine Coast Guard in Ilocos Norte has suspended all sea travel in the province on Tuesday, citing rough sea conditions as the primary reason for the precautionary measure.

According to Philippines News Agency, Lt. Joseph Christian Sagun, station commander of the Coast Guard Station in Ilocos Norte, emphasized that the suspension of boat trips is a necessary safety measure as the region remains on high alert due to the approaching Typhoon Marce. The decision is part of a broader strategy to ensure the safety of travelers and seafarers amidst challenging weather conditions.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued an 11 a.m. bulletin indicating that a gale warning is currently in effect for the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon. The warning has prompted local authorities to advise boats already at sea to remain offshore in deeper waters until conditions improve.

The PCG has been actively coordinating with local gover
nment units and the provincial disaster coordinating council to closely monitor the situation and respond effectively to any developments. This collaboration is crucial for timely updates and ensuring the safety of residents and travelers in the province.

In addition to the suspension of sea travel, primary level students in the province were sent home on Tuesday afternoon as Ilocos Norte is now under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1. This measure is part of the proactive steps taken by authorities to safeguard the community as adverse weather conditions persist.
