PCG Rescues 9 Fishers from Half-Submerged Boat Off Pangasinan Coast

Dasol: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Pangasinan Station successfully rescued nine fishers from a half-submerged fishing vessel off the coast of Dasol town. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning when the distressed vessel was reported to the authorities.

According to Philippines News Agency, a report from the PCG Pangasinan station revealed that the crew of the distressed boat had made a call for help to nearby vessels, which was subsequently reported to the PCG office on April 15. The PCG responded promptly to the distress call involving the fishing vessel F/B Rickmar 1, situated approximately 17.46 nautical miles west of Tambobong Point in Dasol town, Pangasinan. Communication was established through radio, confirming that the vessel was secured to a Fish Aggregating Device (PAYAW) and that all crew members were safe.

The PCG personnel noted that the fishing boat experienced mechanical trouble due to problems with its shafting propeller. In response, the Coast Guard vessel BRP Cabra released a towing line at around 5:50 a.m. on April 16, with the F/B Trinidad standing by. The towing operation officially commenced at 6:01 a.m., directing F/B Rickmar 1 to Barangay Cato in Infanta, Pangasinan.

Upon arrival, the rescued fishers were taken to the PCG Infanta Substation, where they received initial medical assistance from the Infanta Rural Health Unit. The prompt response of the PCG ensured the safety and well-being of the crew involved in the incident.
