PCG, LTO Ramp Up Operations for Bicol Undas Traffic

Bicol: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) 5 has heightened its alert status and operational readiness in anticipation of a significant influx of passengers for Undas 2025. PCG-5 Commander, Commodore Ivan Roldan, emphasized the increased Vessel Safety Enforcement Inspections (VSEI) to ensure adherence to safety standards set by the Maritime Industry Authority.

According to Philippines News Agency, Roldan outlined the importance of VSEI in verifying vessel safety and readiness before sailing. An estimated 120 to 150 vessels, including roll-on/roll-off ferries and fast crafts, are preparing to transport passengers across various Bicol routes during Undas. The PCG will enhance security and safety measures at ports, terminals, and waterways from October 30 to November 4.

More than 450 Coast Guard personnel are on standby to ensure security, enforce safety protocols, and address emergencies. These teams include members from the Special Operations Group, Maritime Safety Services Unit, and Coast Guard K9 and Medical Teams. Additionally, nine land assets and 17 water assets are positioned for rapid deployment in support of operational activities.

Roldan stated that the PCG is strictly implementing a no-overloading policy, verifying passenger manifests, and conducting random inspections of ships and life-saving equipment. Passengers are advised to plan their trips in advance and stay informed about weather updates, as sea travel will be automatically canceled if Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is issued.

PCG-5 anticipates 30,000 to 35,000 passengers to transit through major ports during this Undas season. Concurrently, the regional office of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has dispatched law enforcement officers to ensure safe and smooth travel for motorists and passengers.

LTO-5 Director Allan Castillejos reported that officers are actively performing roadside and terminal inspections. These checks prioritize the roadworthiness of vehicles and assess drivers’ fitness to operate. Castillejos expressed gratitude to partner agencies, terminal operators, and the public for their cooperation during the operations.
