Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has expressed his desire for the proposed legislation aimed at banning political dynasties to be enacted during his term, as reported by Malaca±ang on Tuesday. In a press briefing at the Palace, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro emphasized the President's commitment to this legislative priority.

According to Philippines News Agency, the proposed anti-political dynasty law is a significant agenda for President Marcos. Undersecretary Castro highlighted the President's ambition to see this law materialize under his leadership. The intent of the bill is to broaden the opportunity for Filipinos to pursue elective positions and exhibit their leadership capabilities.

Castro clarified that the proposed measure should not be associated with the current political leadership in provinces like Pampanga and Bulacan. She explained that the law is designed to provide wider chances for other Filipinos to emerge as leaders and showcase their skills.

The 1987 Constitution mandates Congress to outlaw political dynasties 'as may be defined by law,' but an enabling statute has yet to be passed, nearly four decades since the Constitution's inception. The Anti-Political Dynasty Act is among the priority legislations for the 20th Congress. The proposal aims to enforce Section 26, Article II of the 1987 Constitution, which requires the State to ensure equal access to public service opportunities and prohibits political dynasties as defined by law.

The bill seeks to address dynastic practices across national and local elective roles, encompassing the presidency, vice presidency, Senate, House of Representatives, and elective posts in provincial, city, and municipal governments.
