Malaca±ang: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. directed concerned government agencies to ensure the safety of Filipinos returning to their hometowns to observe Holy Week, Malaca±ang said on Tuesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro mentioned that the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is instructed to conduct strict inspections at terminals, ports, and airports to ensure that there will be no delays in operations leading up to the Holy Week. Castro emphasized that the directive extends to all attached agencies to ensure the safety and convenience of all passengers traveling for the occasion.
Castro further explained to Palace reporters that despite efforts, there are times when crimes occur, highlighting the President’s directive that complacency should be avoided. To address this, concerned agencies are expected to heighten monitoring to ensure the solemn observance of Holy Week.
The country will observe Holy Week from April 13 (Palm Sunday) to 19 (Black Saturday). In line with this, the Philippine National Police will deploy 40,151 police officers as part of its ‘Oplan Ligtas SumVac 2025’ campaign, aimed at ensuring public safety during Holy Week and securing summer vacation travelers.
