Legazpi City: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed all relevant government agencies to prioritize the quality, safety, and durability of materials used in infrastructure projects. During his recent visit to Legazpi City, Marcos highlighted the importance of using high-quality materials to ensure the resilience of infrastructure against natural calamities.

According to Philippines News Agency, the President issued this directive to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and other concerned agencies. Marcos stressed the need for climate and disaster resilient infrastructure, particularly given the increasing frequency and intensity of typhoons. He emphasized the implementation of modern designs for roads and bridges to withstand such challenges.

Marcos also reiterated his administration’s commitment to disaster preparedness and climate change mitigation. He urged all government agencies to intensify the
ir efforts in preparation for the potential impacts of climate change. The President called on agencies to enhance measures and speed up actions to prevent the recurrence of calamity effects.

Additionally, Marcos instructed the DPWH to revisit the Bicol River Basin Development Program, with a detailed engineering design expected to commence in 2025. He also sought public cooperation to ensure inclusive efforts in combatting climate change challenges, encouraging both government agencies and citizens to work together in this endeavor.
