Manila: The Department of Tourism in Bicol has launched a trade fair titled the “Festival of Culture and Tourism” as part of the annual Pastores celebration. This event featured 12 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from the region, showcasing their unique crafts and products.
According to Philippines News Agency, the trade fair commenced at the Albay Astrodome on Tuesday, where Maria Salee Mora, the DOT-5 assistant regional director, emphasized the festival’s aim to recognize, promote, and celebrate the rich culture of the region. In her speech, she highlighted the significance of showcasing Bicol’s destinations, crafts, and flavors, which embody the heart of Bicol-its people, traditions, and enduring spirit of faith.
Mora also noted that the event provides a platform for local artists and businesses to present their flavors, arts, and crafts. She expressed that the celebration offers an ideal opportunity to highlight Bicol’s products and encouraged local executives to draw inspiration from the event to strengthen partnerships with communities and work toward sustainable tourism.
Albay Provincial Tourism Officer Dorothy Colle added that the event is a testament to DOT-5’s commitment to regional progress, demonstrating the value placed on making tourism viable. Ricky Loterte, Legazpi City Tourism Officer, assured attendees of the dedication of local executives to preserve cultural traditions for future generations.
The Pastores is a cherished Christmas tradition in the Bicol Region, retelling the story of the shepherds’ journey to the manger through song and dance.
