Pangasinan: The municipal government has commenced the distribution of Noche Buena packages to approximately 42,000 households across its 77 villages as part of its annual Pamaskong Handog project. In an interview, municipal administrative officer Rafael Saygo indicated that the number of beneficiaries might increase as more families are added to the list.

According to Philippines News Agency, Saygo emphasized that the funding for the packages did not originate from the municipal government. Instead, it was provided by the foundation of the Mayor and the Agricultural Infrastructure and Leasing Corp (AILC). The Noche Buena package comprises ingredients for a spaghetti dish, two canned corned beef, about two kilos of rice, noodles for pancit dish, a pack of sugar, milk powder, and coffee powder.

articularly in light of recent weather disturbances in the province. “Ang hangarin nito ay simple lang, na wala ng mag-iisip ng paghahanda dahil ang pasko ay para sa ating pamilya,” she expressed.

The tradition of providing Noche Buena packages began in 2016, with last year seeing around 31,539 households benefiting from the initiative. In addition to the gift distribution, a Star Wars inspired Christmas display was opened to the public on November 23. The attraction, sponsored by AILC president Dr. Cezar Quiambao and the Jose-Quiambao family, is free of charge. A trade fair is also being held to showcase local businesses’ products. Last year’s Christmas attraction was inspired by Studio Ghibli.
