Manila: Malaca±ang on Wednesday urged public officials and government agencies to cooperate with investigations, warning against any attempt to obstruct inquiries or cover up possible corruption. This comes as the Office of the Ombudsman accused Taguig local government personnel of supposedly blocking the investigation into alleged illegal reclamation activities in the city.
According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro emphasized that officials and local government units (LGUs) should have nothing to fear from investigations if they have acted within the law and followed proper procedures. Castro stated, "Dapat tayo po ay open sa pagpapa-imbestiga, dahil kung wala naman kayong ginagawang mali at lahat naman po ay naayon sa batas at proseso, hindi naman katakutan ang pagpapa-imbestiga." This translates to a call for openness to investigations, asserting that there is nothing to fear if actions have been lawful.
Castro further implored, "Huwag harangin, huwag magkaroon ng cover up; hindi po nais ng Pangulo na magkaroon ng cover-up sa mga isyu ng anomalya, lalong-lalo na patungkol sa corruption." This reflects the administration's firm stance against obstruction and cover-ups, particularly concerning corruption issues.
The Palace official also urged public officials to cooperate with investigating authorities and provide relevant documents and records if needed. She stressed that the administration desires investigations to proceed without interference, especially when public officials or government entities are involved.
