Laurel: The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) inaugurated a socio-civic center in San Gregorio, Laurel, Batangas, designed to function as an evacuation site during disasters and as a venue for social and community activities.
According to Philippines News Agency, PAGCOR announced that the PHP50 million two-story building includes multipurpose halls, kitchens, restrooms, and other disaster-resilient amenities, ensuring its functionality in both emergencies and daily use.
PAGCOR Assistant Vice President for Community Relations and Services Department (CRSD) Eric Balcos handed over the building to Laurel Mayor Lyndon Bruce. He emphasized that the new structure demonstrates PAGCOR’s commitment to safeguard and uplift communities that are vulnerable to natural calamities.
PAGCOR highlighted that Laurel is particularly at risk during periods of volcanic unrest, with residents often requiring evacuation and experiencing disruptions to their daily activities.
To date, PAGCOR has completed 50 socio-civic centers across the nation, with 22 more under construction. The development of these centers is part of PAGCOR’s broader initiative to invest gaming revenues into community projects aimed at enhancing disaster preparedness and improving the quality of life in local communities.
