P6.8M Shabu Seized, 2 Arrested in Lanao Norte

Lanao del norte: Authorities have arrested two suspects and seized approximately PHP6.8 million worth of shabu in an anti-drug operation in Lanao del Norte on Wednesday night. In a statement Thursday, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Zamboanga Peninsula (PDEA-9) identified the suspects by their aliases: Junaid, 20, and Warda, 25, a businesswoman. Both are residents of Salvador, Lanao del Norte.

According to Philippines News Agency, the suspects were arrested in a buy-bust operation around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, in Barangay Maranding, Lala, Lanao del Norte. Seized from the two suspects were a kilogram of shabu, marked money, two mobile phones, cash from drug sales, IDs, and personal belongings.

PDEA operatives from Zamboanga del Norte and Lanao del Norte spearheaded the operation with the support of police forces. The suspects are facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Wednesday’s confiscation is the largest among three significant drug hauls by authorities in Lanao del Norte this month. On July 12, two suspects were arrested and some PHP2.5 million worth of suspected shabu were confiscated in Lala town. The following day, a suspect was also nabbed and some PHP3.4 million worth of suspected shabu were seized in Kolambugan municipality.
