Lanao del norte: Police in Lanao del Norte seized smuggled cigarettes amounting to PHP2.36 million past midnight Sunday. According to Philippines News Agency, the Lanao del Norte Police Provincial Office and Kauswagan Municipal Police Station received a call about 1:40 a.m. regarding two vehicles heading toward Barangay Paiton in Kauswagan town.
Together with the 1005th Regional Mobile Force Battalion, police officers found the abandoned vehicles carrying 2,950 reams of suspected smuggled cigarettes. The items and the vehicles were subsequently turned over to the municipal police station.
"We will hold those involved in the illegal trade accountable," stated Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao Director Brig. Gen. Nestor Babagay. The police further urged the public to report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that timely information can help in preventing illegal activities and protecting communities.
