Davao city: Authorities seized PHP2.1 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in an operation in Toril District, the Davao City Police Office reported Thursday. The suspect, identified as alias Rodel, was apprehended around 7:20 p.m. on Nov. 5 in a joint operation by Task Force Davao and DCPO personnel.

According to Philippines News Agency, Rodel faces charges for violating the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act for transporting smuggled cigarettes. Confiscated during the operation were 54 boxes of contraband, each containing 50 reams of cigarettes. The seized items are under the custody of the Bureau of Customs-Davao, while the suspect is held at the Eden Police Station for medical examination and inquest proceedings.

In a separate statement, TFD Commander Col. Rodrigo Mari±as Jr. commended his troops’ efforts and integrity in combating illegal activities.
