P100-M Ecotourism Project Approved for Dinagat Islands

Manila: A newly approved PHP100 million eco-tourism project is expected to boost the tourism industry in Dinagat Islands province. Gov. Nilo Demerey Jr. welcomed the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority's approval of the Gaas Inlet Eco-Tourism Development in Libjo town.

According to Philippines News Agency, the project features a 1.8-kilometer boardwalk through a 65.50-hectare mangrove forest, leading to a water sports area. It will include rest areas and cottages for activities like canoeing. Gov. Demerey expressed gratitude to TIEZA Chief Mark Lapid for the approval of the project and acknowledged the support of Dick Carmona, the secretary general for the Caraga Region of the Philippine Councilors League, for providing technical support during the project's presentation at TIEZA.

Construction of the project is tentatively set to start in March or April, which will generate local jobs during and after its completion. Gov. Demerey emphasized the project's role in promoting sustainable tourism by highlighting conservation and environmental education, aiming to attract eco-conscious travelers and nature enthusiasts to the province.
