Manila: More than 5 million individuals have been impacted by the severe weather conditions caused by tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay, along with the ongoing southwest monsoon, according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD). The affected population spans across 10 regions, with the number rising to approximately 5.08 million people.
According to Philippines News Agency, OCD information officer Diego Mariano reported that these individuals equate to around 1.45 million families residing in regions such as Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Calabarzon, Cordillera Administrative Region, National Capital Region (NCR), and Mimaropa. To accommodate those displaced, approximately 523 evacuation centers have been set up, currently sheltering around 7,182 families or 24,893 individuals.
The assistance provided to date amounts to PHP734.1 million. The OCD is also verifying reports of 23 fatalities attributed to the adverse weather, with the highest numbers recorded in Benguet, followed by Rizal and Batangas. The number of injured individuals stands at 17, with one person reported missing. Reports also indicate that 182 houses have been completely destroyed, while 1,681 have sustained partial damage.
Meanwhile, Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Col. Allen Rae Co stated that as of Monday morning, regional police offices have reported 27 deaths due to the severe weather. The PNP has also recorded 14 injuries in the Cordillera, and two each in NCR and Calabarzon, with one missing person in both NCR and Calabarzon. These figures are based on data from PNP regional units and are subject to further validation.
