Antique: Some 1,650 rice, corn, and seaweed farmers in Antique have filed claims with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) following the damages caused by Tropical Cyclones Tino and Uwan. Clogene Galluego, PCIC Antique head, reported that 989 of these farmers are involved in rice and corn cultivation, while 661 are engaged in seaweed production.
According to Philippines News Agency, farmers affected by Tino have a deadline until November 25 to submit their claims, while those impacted by Uwan have until November 30. Farmers can fill out the Notice of Loss form at their respective Municipal Agriculture Offices (MAOs), and PCIC personnel visit these offices weekly to collect and process the forms.
PCIC personnel or adjusters are conducting site validations on the reported crop damages across the province. A rice and corn farmer with a 1.5-hectare insured damaged area could receive an insurance check of PHP30,000. For smaller areas, such as a one-fourth hectare, the insurance coverage would be PHP5,000. For seaweed farmers, the insurance coverage for a 1,000 square meter area is approximately PHP16,000.
Additionally, Dr. Marco Rafael Ardamil, chief of the Public Health Division of the Antique Provincial Veterinary Office, has called on poultry and livestock farmers to report their insured damages to the PCIC before the deadlines. He noted that 333 farm animals, including poultry and livestock, perished during the typhoons.
