Osorio, Vekic to Dispute 1st PH Women’s Open Title

Manila: Colombian Camila Osorio and Croatian Donna Vekic downed their rivals Friday night to forge a championship showdown in the singles event of the inaugural Philippine Women's Open at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.

According to Philippines News Agency, the fifth-seeded Osorio was nearly flawless to eliminate third seed Solana Sierra of Argentina, 6-0, 6-1, in just 46 minutes. "I played a good match. It's been amazing to have this support from the crowd," the World No. 84 Osorio said, who ousted Filipino second seed Alex Eala 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.

Osorio is anticipating a challenging match against the fourth seed and World No. 72 Vekic, who secured her final spot by defeating Russian Tatiana Prozorova, 6-2, 6-4. "She's a very good player. I'm gonna do my best," Osorio commented on her upcoming match.

The tournament winner will earn USD15,500 (approximately PHP913,000) in cash and 125 Women's Tennis Association points. The runner-up will receive USD8,400 (about PHP495,000) and 81 points.

Meanwhile, second seeds Eudice Chong of Hong Kong and Liang En-shuo of Chinese Taipei captured the doubles title by defeating American top seeds Quinn Gleason and Sabrina Santamaria, 2-6, 7-6 (7-2), 10-6.
