Manila: All proceeds from the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Fun Run 2025 will be used to fund the humanitarian programs of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) said on Saturday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the OGP Fun Run 2025, scheduled to take place at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on Sunday, serves as a prelude to the OGP Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting (APRM) in February. The APRM is a high-level gathering designed to promote open governance by bringing together government entities, the private sector, and civil society, and will be held in Manila from February 5 to 7.
The DBM highlighted that the fun run aims to promote health and wellness while championing the values of open government. In collaboration with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the PRC, the DBM has organized the first-ever OGP Fun Run.
Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman underscored the significance of the OGP’s values in realizing President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s vision of a Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines). She stated, “These principles are foundational to the OGP and closely align with PBBM’s governance agenda. This is about stepping forward with conviction, advancing transparency, and participation in governance.”
PRC chairperson Richard Gordon expressed gratitude to Pangandaman for leading the event and supporting the organization’s life-saving initiatives. PRC secretary general, Dr. Gwendolyn Pang, mentioned that the DBM’s commitment to donate the proceeds for the organization’s humanitarian programs would benefit more vulnerable communities across the country.
MMDA chairperson Romando Artes noted that the fun run would provide a platform for the public to gather and demonstrate support for initiatives that enhance government accountability, transparency, participation, and solidarity in advocating for social reforms.
The unique community running event offers three race distances with corresponding registration fees: 3km (PHP700), 5km (PHP800), and 10 km (PHP1,000). The event will commence at 4 a.m., with warm-up activities taking place before the start of the run.
The DBM also announced partnerships with organizations such as San Miguel Corp., Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp., Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., Systems Technology Institute, Philippine Airlines, Coca-Cola, Bingo Plus, Pocari Sweat, Maynilad, and Pinoy Fitness.
