No Witch-Hunt in Probe into Flood Control Projects: Palace

Malaca±ang: The ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in flood control projects is not a witch-hunt, but an effort to uphold transparency and accountability in government spending.

According to Philippines News Agency, in a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will not act in haste, pending the results of the investigation into the flagged infrastructure projects for flood mitigation. Castro emphasized that the President would not dismiss officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) without solid evidence.

Castro reiterated that it is challenging to conduct a witch-hunt and fire DPWH officials merely based on claims that many flood control projects are poorly executed. However, she assured the public that any officials found negligent or involved in the anomalous projects will face consequences after a fair and thorough investigation.

The Palace encouraged the public to report irregularities through the newly-launched ‘Sumbong sa Pangulo’ website. Castro mentioned that the President would not hesitate to take immediate action if responsibilities and negligence are identified during the investigation.

When questioned about a timeline for the investigation, Castro noted that there was none. However, President Marcos has directed the fact-finding body to act with urgency.

Furthermore, the Palace called on individuals with knowledge of any wrongdoing, including Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, to come forward and provide information on the alleged irregularities. Castro urged them to submit all relevant documents, facts, and data to the President, and to disclose the names of the 67 congressmen involved, so that charges can be filed if necessary.
