Pandan: The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) is set to unveil a marker at the monument of Antique's revolutionary hero, Gen. Leandro L. Fullon, in Pandan municipality on September 21. Fullon, a member of the Katipunan, played a pivotal role in organizing the country's first revolutionary government.
According to Philippines News Agency, Fullon is celebrated as the liberator of Antique, leading an armed expedition dispatched by Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo from Luzon to Antique on September 6, 1898. Provincial Tourism Promotion Officer Celestino Dalumpines IV highlighted in an interview that Fullon led a revolutionary force composed of 140 officers and 340 troops. They flew the Philippine revolutionary flag at the shorelines of Barangay Inyawan, a symbolic act of reclaiming Antique from Spanish colonizers.
A monument has been erected in Barangay Bagumbayan to honor Fullon's significant contributions to both the province and the country. Dalumpines expressed pride in the NHCP's recognition of Fullon's contributions to Philippine history. He emphasized that Fullon's heroism serves as a reminder to Antique±os of their noble lineage in the fight for Philippine Independence.
Dalumpines further noted that Fullon should be an inspiration for the youth to strive for leadership and excellence. The unveiling ceremony will be led by NHCP Executive Director Carminda Arevalo, marking a significant moment in commemorating the historical legacy of Gen. Leandro L. Fullon.
