Bulacan: The Department of Education (DepEd) has praised the completion of a new bypass road constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), which significantly improves access to Last Mile Schools in Bulacan.
According to Philippines News Agency, the 67.93-kilometer Do±a Remedios Trinidad-Dingalan Bypass Road now facilitates easier access for teachers and students to remote schools such as Talamsi I Elementary School, Talamsi II Elementary School, Kalawakan Elementary School, and Kambubuyugan Elementary School. DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara highlighted that the DPWH project addresses educational disparities and promotes equity in the country's most isolated schools.
Angara remarked that the project represents a commitment under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s administration to eliminate both physical isolation and the lack of educational opportunities in remote areas. Previously, impassable and muddy paths created significant travel challenges for educators and students, akin to an exhausting trek or extended daily commute.
Jeffrey Dote, head of Talamsi II Elementary School, emphasized the transformative impact of the government infrastructure, which alleviates previous travel difficulties. He noted how the new road enables quicker and safer journeys, contrasting with past experiences of staying overnight at the school due to hazardous road conditions.
The infrastructure improvement extends beyond the road, with the school now benefiting from a new four-classroom building equipped with solar energy, a water system, and satellite internet, all built by DPWH.
Arfel Alvaro, head of Talamsi I Elementary School, also praised the project, noting improved student attendance now that roads are more accessible, allowing students with motorcycles to reach the school more easily.
Angara concluded by affirming that the road infrastructure ensures access to quality education for all learners, despite geographical challenges, through the collaboration of DepEd and DPWH in creating safer roads and modernized classrooms.
