Nearly 65K Families Receive Food Packs and Rice in Catanduanes

Catanduanes: At least 64,939 families in Catanduanes received food packs and bags of rice after Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong) pummeled the island province. Catanduanes Governor Patrick Azanza said 55,207 family food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Bicol, along with 9,732 bags of rice from the provincial government, were distributed.

According to Philippines News Agency, Azanza stated that the distribution was underway with trucks carrying the supplies to Caramoran, Pandan, Panganiban, and Bagamanoc. He emphasized that claim stubs were not necessary, as a list of family heads from the barangay and municipal social welfare would be sufficient for distribution.

Azanza highlighted the efforts of both the national and provincial governments in providing assistance to those affected. He assured that the most critical situations were being prioritized and emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in the disaster response efforts.

Telecommunication services have been partially restored, with Smart at 67.60 percent, Globe at 62.96 percent, and Innove at 50 percent. Azanza expressed gratitude to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary for deploying 37 Starlink units before the typhoon and committing an additional 30 units to improve connectivity on the island. The DICT also established 21 active free Wi-Fi connections in the province.

Furthermore, the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD) plans to deliver housing materials to the provincial capitol on Thursday. Azanza explained that the DHSUD would manage the purchase and delivery of equipment and evaluate eligibility for cash assistance.
