National Museum-Baler Inauguration Coincides with Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day

Manila: The National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) is set to inaugurate its latest museum component, the NMP-Baler, in Sitio Cabituculan, Barangay Reserva, on Tuesday. This inauguration represents a significant step in the agency's ongoing efforts to make the cultural and natural heritage of the Philippines more accessible to communities across the nation.

According to Philippines News Agency, the inauguration will align with the celebration of the 24th Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day, highlighting the enduring cultural and historical ties between the Philippines and Spain. The NMP-Baler will feature three permanent galleries showcasing the province's rich history, biodiversity, cultural heritage, and artistic traditions.

The Cruce de Caminos Gallery will delve into the historical relationship between the Philippines and Spain through an exhibit titled Encuentros Vivos (Living Encounters). Meanwhile, the Sierra, Tierra, Costa Gallery will emphasize the diversity of Aurora's ecosystems, Indigenous knowledge, and local traditions. The Pagtatagpo/Encuentro Gallery will celebrate the country's vibrant artistic heritage through works by renowned Filipino artists.

Designed by acclaimed Filipino architect Ed Calma, the museum is inspired by Aurora's cultural landscape and the Sierra Madre Mountain Range. It seamlessly blends contemporary architecture with the province's natural and historical identity. Visitors will also have the opportunity to engage in community activities, participate in gallery tours, and enjoy the Oron by Crumby Crust Caf©, enhancing their cultural and educational experience.

Starting July 1, the NMP-Baler will welcome the public daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on officially declared government holidays, with free admission. The museum will also provide various public education programs and engagement activities aimed at promoting lifelong learning, cultural appreciation, and active community participation.

As the newest addition to the National Museum's expanding network nationwide, the NMP-Baler is poised to become a significant cultural landmark in Aurora. It will offer visitors a deeper understanding of the province's history, heritage, natural environment, and artistic legacy, while contributing to cultural tourism and education in the region.
