New delhi: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. emphasized the Philippines’ strategy to attain peace by aligning with nations that uphold international law, amidst growing tensions in the Indo-Pacific. According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos stated that forming alliances with like-minded states committed to defending territory and sovereign rights is the most effective solution to current geopolitical challenges. The Philippines is dealing with increased Chinese incursions in the West Philippine Sea, where its military resupply missions have encountered aggressive actions from Chinese vessels.
Marcos reiterated the Philippines’ 2016 arbitral victory in The Hague, rejecting China’s expansive claims under its nine-dash line. He vowed to protect Philippine territory and stren
gthen alliances adhering to a rules-based order. His remarks came during his state visit to India, where the Philippines and India announced an elevation of ties to a Strategic Partnership.
Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada praised the security agreements with India, highlighting their significance for regional peace and maritime safety. Estrada noted that the strategic alliance enhances protection for Filipino fishers and maritime personnel in disputed waters. He expressed optimism for future collaboration on maritime patrols, defense technology, and intelligence-sharing.
