Marcos Emphasizes Philippines’ Commitment to Asia-Pacific Growth at APEC Summit

Busan: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment as a “responsible and active partner” in the Asia-Pacific region, emphasizing the nation’s dedication to inclusive and sustainable growth during the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Gyeongju.

According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos highlighted the Philippines’ key priorities at this year’s summit, which include advancing digital trade, developing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), securing food and energy, and enhancing climate resilience. These pillars are central to his administration’s economic strategy.

President Marcos stated that the objectives are practical measures aimed at improving the economy, making it more inclusive and resilient. He noted that APEC serves as a platform to unlock investment and job opportunities, which will directly benefit ordinary Filipinos by creating more businesses and jobs.

In addition, Marcos emphasized the importance of strengthening skills development and educational partnerships within APEC to equip Filipino workers for rapid technological advancements. He also addressed climate change as a global issue requiring collective action.

During the APEC CEO Summit, President Marcos is scheduled to deliver a keynote address, promoting the Philippines as a competitive hub for semiconductors, renewable energy, and digital industries. Furthermore, he is expected to engage in a bilateral meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung.

The gathering in Busan marks the beginning of Marcos’ participation in APEC 2025, which includes leaders and senior officials from 21 economies, such as Chinese President Xi Jinping, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. President Marcos reiterated his commitment to work with neighboring countries to ensure shared progress and inclusivity for all Filipinos.
