Manila: Manila Water has pledged to maintain the provision of safe and potable water to over 7.9 million customers in the East Zone of Metro Manila despite the heavy monsoon rains impacting raw water sources. According to Philippines News Agency, the company announced it will persevere in its efforts to deliver quality water even as the 'habagat' season brings challenges to water treatment processes.

The company highlighted that the heavy rainfall during this monsoon season significantly increases the turbidity, or cloudiness, of raw water sources. This occurs as runoff introduces silt, mud, and other particles into rivers and reservoirs. "Despite these conditions, our treatment facilities and water quality teams work continuously to ensure that the water reaching customers remains safe, potable, and compliant with national standards," stated Dittie Galang, Manila Water Communication Affairs Group Head, in a news release.

Manila Water's treatment plants are equipped to handle these challenges by operating within a water quality envelope that allows efficient processing of highly turbid raw water while adhering to drinking water standards. The treatment process incorporates multiple barriers, including coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection, supported by continuous monitoring and necessary operational adjustments.

In July 2026, Manila Water achieved 100 percent compliance with the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW) at its treatment plant outlets, underscoring the effectiveness and resilience of its processes amid adverse weather conditions. Moreover, the company recorded a 99.75 percent compliance rate with PNSDW requirements across its distribution network, significantly surpassing the regulatory target of 95 percent.
