Manila: The Archdiocese of Manila has extended an invitation to the faithful to participate in a prayer vigil on February 21 for the speedy recovery of Pope Francis, who has been hospitalized since February 14. The vigil will take place at the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila.

According to Philippines News Agency, the archdiocese’s announcement came following the call from Archbishop Charles John Brown, the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, urging prayers not only for Pope Francis but also for the medical team attending to him. The prayer vigil is scheduled for 5:00 pm this Friday.

The Holy Hour event is set to occur a day after Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula encouraged parishes and communities within the Archdiocese of Manila to initiate prayer activities for the Pope’s recovery. He emphasized the importance of community prayers dedicated to the healing of the sick, particularly for the Pope.

Cardinal Advincula also appealed to individuals and families to dedicate personal prayers to the same cause. Pope Francis, aged 88, was admitted to the hospital last week due to bronchitis.
