LTO Suspends Police Officer’s License for Riding Without Helmet in Bicycle Lane

Manila: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the driver’s license of a police officer for 90 days after he was caught on video riding a motorcycle without a helmet in a bicycle lane. The officer was seen driving erratically, prompting the LTO to take action in compliance with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure road discipline and adherence to traffic laws for the safety of all road users.

According to Philippines News Agency, the LTO issued a show cause order requiring the police officer and the registered owner of the motorcycle to appear before the LTO on November 14. They must explain why their license should not face further suspension or revocation due to being deemed an ‘improper person to operate a motor vehicle.’ The individuals involved may also face charges for violating the mandatory helmet use law and disregarding traffic signs.

The incident gained attention after a video went viral on social media, showing the uniformed officer riding on a bicycle lane without a helmet. The LTO emphasized the importance of keeping bicycle lanes exclusive for bikers, criticizing the officer’s disregard for other motorists’ convenience and safety.

While the investigation is ongoing, the motorcycle involved, identified as a Honda WW150AM with plate number 442UHV, has been placed on alarm, preventing any transactions with the LTO.
