Antique: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has intensified its campaign against ‘colorum,’ or unregistered, and overloaded public utility vehicles (PUVs) plying Antique. Eric Otayde, LTO-Antique chief, stated in an interview that their deputized personnel have been conducting inspections on terminals, cemeteries, and other areas of convergence to check the licenses of the PUVs and prevent overloading.
According to Philippines News Agency, Otayde emphasized that their campaign aims to prevent incidents like the one in August where two students perished after the colorum van they were riding crashed into a house in Barangay Cadajug, Laua-an. The intensified campaign is part of efforts to ensure road safety, especially before the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on November 1 and 2, which sees an influx of people coming home to Antique or visiting cemeteries.
Meanwhile, residents of San Jose de Buenavista are hurrying to clean the tombs of their deceased loved ones due to a local government deadline set for Friday. Rosita Uriel, an 81-year-old resident, mentioned she dedicates time to clean the tombs of her parents and husband as a way to remember them. She also extends her efforts to clean nearby tombs. Clifford Linaogo, a 14-year-old, expressed his love for his grandfather and uncle by repainting their tombs.
