Manila: Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chair Vigor Mendoza II has pledged to address over 37,000 pending motions and petitions filed with the agency by the end of the year.
According to Philippines News Agency, Mendoza has instructed all LTFRB division chiefs to resolve 4,000 pending motions and petitions within the next 30 days to expedite the backlog clearance. Mendoza emphasized that the LTFRB Board would utilize all available resources to finalize all orders and decisions by December 15, 2025.
This directive aligns with Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez’s instructions following a report highlighting the backlog issues. The report was compiled after Mendoza took over as head of the agency earlier in October.
Mendoza noted that Secretary Lopez was concerned about the report, which suggested that the backlog might be contributing to public transportation challenges not only in Metro Manila but across the country. The report followed consultations with transport groups who raised these concerns to the LTFRB.
The backlog consists of approximately 33,000 pending petitions with the LTFRB Board, and an additional 4,000 in various divisions of the LTFRB. Mendoza stressed the importance of resolving these issues to alleviate the burden on commuters and those in the transport sector, including operators and drivers of public utility vehicles.
Furthermore, Mendoza implemented a policy to ensure newly filed motions and petitions are resolved within 15 days of filing, aiming to prevent future backlogs.
