LABUAN, A total of 500 low-income earners in this duty-free island will begin moving into Labuan’s first Program Residensi Rakyat (PRR) Batu Arang, Tanjung Aru here starting next month, following the completion of the RM119 million project in August.
Deputy Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Aiman Athira Sabu said the development, which commenced in January 2018, features two 13-storey blocks comprising 500 units.
She said each 700.19 sq ft apartment is designed with three rooms, providing ample living space for residents.
‘The project aims to enhance the community’s living experience by offering essential amenities, including a community hall, surau, kindergarten, shophouses, and a children’s playground,’ she said at the Sentuhan Kasih KPKT Labuan – Presentation of the Key to Recipients of Program Residensi Rakyat (PRR) Batu Arang here today.
She said inclusivity was a key factor in the Batu Arang PRR, which has dedicated five units to meet the specific needs of individuals with disabilitie
s (OKU), and added this project ensures that no one is left behind.
‘Aligned with the Malaysia MADANI agenda, the development also prioritises modern living elements such as connectivity through fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) internet access and convenient public transport links.
Aiman Athirah also emphasised the government’s ongoing commitment to providing affordable, high-quality housing that meets the demands of habitability.
“The government is focused on ensuring that public housing projects not only provide shelter but are equipped with added value and modern amenities to enhance the quality of life for residents,” she added.
