La union: La Union’s Christmas Village is set to bring joy and hope to residents following various disasters this year, while also stimulating economic activities and promoting local products and destinations.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Christmas Village is located at the Francisco Ortega Convention Center Complex grounds in Barangay Sevilla, San Fernando City. It features a 55-foot Christmas tree at the roundabout adorned with approximately 900 lanterns crafted by Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) from the provincial jail. This initiative has allowed the PDL to earn money, which they have sent to their families.
Entrance to the village is free of charge, encouraging more people to experience the festive atmosphere. The village also showcases products and tourism destinations from the province’s 19 towns and one city, with booths offering a one-town, one-product selection for sale.
The village opened on Monday and includes carnival rides, an inflatable playground, and food bazaars that offer local dishes, adding to the vibrancy of the event. Additionally, the convention center boasts a lighting display to enhance the festive atmosphere.
“We brought the Christmas Village to this new location to avoid traffic in the town center. This area is more spacious and can accommodate more visitors,” stated La Union Governor Mario Eduardo Ortega.
