La Union on Full Alert Amid Influx of Tourists on Lenten Break

La Union: La Union’s Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and Provincial Health Office (PHO) are on full alert to ensure the safety of travelers and tourists during the Holy Week break. Emergency teams will be stationed in key areas, including coastal zones and churches, to maintain safety and respond to emergencies.

According to Philippines News Agency, Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David announced that personnel will be deployed to key areas to ensure the safety and security of visitors expected to flock to the province. These measures aim to accommodate the influx of tourists visiting not only popular destinations but also local churches during the Lenten season.

The PDRRMO has mobilized resources and finalized emergency plans under the Oplan Summer Vacation initiative. Coordination with local municipal disaster offices has been made to implement necessary preparedness measures. Two four-person teams will be deployed to strategic coastal locations, while the PHO will dispatch emergency response units, including an ambulance, three rescue pickups, two rubber boats, a jetski, and a service vehicle.

Governor David reminded beachgoers to exercise caution when swimming and urged motorists to practice safe and responsible driving. She also emphasized the importance of observing the Anti-Disturbance Ordinance on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday to maintain the solemnity of the religious observance, reminding the public that concerts, parties, and similar events are prohibited on those days.
