Kuala lumpur: Malaysian team Kuala Lumpur clinched the inaugural Pilipinas United 3×3 League men’s title by defeating the local team Half Court Group, 21-15, at Ayala Malls Manila Bay.
According to Philippines News Agency, MVP Ting Chun Hong and Chang Zi Fueng led the Kuala Lumpur team with seven points each, securing the USD5,000 top prize and a spot in the FIBA 3×3 World Tour Kaohsiung Challenger in October. Chester Saldua scored nine points for Half Court Group, which competed without Adeshokan Odou due to a knee injury sustained during their semifinal victory over Solaris, 20-17.
Half Court Group earned USD2,500 and a slot in the FIBA 3×3 World Tour Manila Challenger in September. Kuala Lumpur’s journey to the finals included victories over Taho Story B (21-18) in the semis, SBB (21-16) in the quarterfinal, and Dame DOLLA Vietnam (21-13) in the round of 16.
In the women’s division, Maurice Lacroix from Japan defeated Uratex Dream, 15-13, to win the title and a USD3,000 cash prize. Uratex, featuring Gilas Pilipinas U23 players, took home USD1,500. Maurice Lacroix advanced to the finals by overcoming Jumpshot, 17-10, in the quarterfinal and Uratex, 11-9, in the semifinals.
The event also featured a celebrity exhibition match where Team Motivated of Rendon Labador edged out Team Malupiton, 11-10. Additionally, Patrick Jamison won the Two-Point Shootout, while Richard McCalop Jr. triumphed in the Dunk Contest.
