Manila: Malaca±ang has declared June 24, 2026 a special non-working day in the City of Manila in celebration of its 455th founding anniversary. Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, by authority of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., signed Proclamation No. 1320 to allow Manile±os to fully participate in the city's anniversary activities.
According to Philippines News Agency, the proclamation stated, 'It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Manila be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration.' Founded on June 24, 1571 by Spanish conquistador Miguel L³pez de Legazpi, Manila is considered the country's capital and remains the center of government, commerce, education, culture, and history.
The city government is expected to hold various commemorative activities marking the anniversary of the country's premier city. Meanwhile, Malaca±ang also declared June 24 a special non-working day in the municipality of Lian, Batangas through Proclamation No. 1321 in celebration of the annual Sambuhos Festival, a thanksgiving event honoring the town's patron saint, St. John the Baptist.
The Palace likewise declared June 18 a special non-working day in the municipality of Montevista, Davao de Oro through Proclamation No. 1319 for the observance of Araw ng Montevista.
