Dumaguete City: Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial candidate Erwin Tulfo has expressed his support for the appointment of former journalist Jay Ruiz as the new head of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO). Ruiz is set to replace outgoing Acting Secretary Cesar Chavez.

According to Philippines News Agency, Tulfo, speaking to reporters in Dumaguete City, conveyed his confidence in Ruiz’s ability to assist the Marcos administration, particularly in its efforts to combat misinformation and disinformation, as well as in promoting government policies and initiatives. Tulfo highlighted his previous professional relationship with Ruiz at ABS-CBN, noting his respect for Ruiz’s capabilities. “May tiwala naman ako kasi nakasama ko si Jay Ruiz before sa ABS-CBN (I have confidence because I worked with Jay Ruiz before at ABS-CBN). And I respect the guy. I believe he can do something for the administration,” Tulfo stated.

Ruiz, originally from Ilocos Norte, has an extensive background in journalism, having worked as a reporter for ABS-CBN for over two decades. He retired from journalism in 2016 to take a position within the Office of the Senate President during the Duterte administration. His appointment as the head of the PCO comes in the wake of Cesar Chavez’s resignation, which was confirmed earlier on Thursday. Chavez announced that he would step down from his post on February 5, with his departure from office slated for no later than February 28. Ruiz is expected to officially assume his new role by March 1.
