Japan Reaffirms Support for Philippine Coast Guard in Maritime Safety.

Manila: A Japanese government official reaffirmed Tokyo’s support for the Philippine Coast Guard’s (PCG) contributions toward enhancing regional safety and security in the maritime sector. During a courtesy visit at the PCG National Headquarters in Port Area, Manila, Japan Deputy Director General and Deputy Assistant Minister of Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau Miyamoto Shingo thanked the PCG and expressed his support for its missions.

According to Philippines News Agency, Miyamoto emphasized the shared efforts between Japan and the Philippines, highlighting a mutual understanding of the complexities of the current geopolitical landscape. He stressed the importance of upholding the rule of law in maritime governance, particularly in light of emerging challenges.

In a statement, PCG Strategic Studies and International Affairs Center Director, Commodore Rommel Supangan, expressed hope to “deepen” the partnership between the Philippines and Japan. He underscored the significance of exploring solutions to shar
ed challenges, envisioning a future where maritime cooperation serves as a beacon of strength and mutual benefit.

During the meeting, discussions focused on contributing to enhanced regional maritime security, aiming to strengthen the collaborative efforts between the two nations.
