Israel Identifies Philippines as Key Market for Cybersecurity Expansion

Taguig: The Israeli Embassy to the Philippines and Israeli technology and cybersecurity firms have recognized the Philippines as a promising market for cybersecurity solutions. This acknowledgement was made during a cyber roadshow organized by the Israel Economic Mission to the Philippines, held in Taguig.

According to Philippines News Agency, Economic Counsellor Ofek Venecianer emphasized the country’s swift digital transformation and growing exposure to cyber threats, highlighting its potential for long-term business partnerships. Venecianer referenced President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s recent State of the Nation Address, which underscored the necessity of digitalization for the Philippines to remain competitive with neighboring nations.

In an interview, Venecianer noted the high level of interest from Israeli cybersecurity firms in the Philippine market, describing it as ‘one of the highest in Asia.’ Many Israeli companies are eager to enter or expand within the country, driven by Israel’s advanced technological capabilities, which have developed in response to its own security challenges.

Eight Israeli companies, specializing in diverse cybersecurity areas such as cloud and data protection and securing physical devices, participated in the event. They engaged with government agencies, private companies, and academic institutions. Venecianer mentioned that some of these companies already have local partners, while others are exploring expansion opportunities in the Philippines.

Israel Deputy Ambassador Ester Buzgan highlighted the cultural similarities between Israelis and Filipinos, along with the Philippines’ English proficiency and strategic position in Southeast Asia, as appealing factors for Israeli businesses. “We do business with friends, and Filipinos and Israelis share that connection of trust,” Buzgan said.

Ambassador-designate Dana Kursh, in her opening remarks, pointed out that the Philippines’ ongoing digitalization offers a crucial opportunity to embed strong cyber safeguards. She also noted the long-standing relationship between the two countries, which makes the Philippines attractive to Israeli firms. Kursh emphasized the shared values of family, friendliness, and faith as foundational elements that bind the two nations.

Beyond cybersecurity, Israel is also exploring potential collaboration with the Philippines in agriculture, water technology, food security, and other innovative sectors.
