Iloilo city: The provincial government of Iloilo will operate on a PHP6.88 billion budget in 2026, with allocations of PHP5.53 billion for the General Fund and PHP1.35 billion for the Local Economic Enterprise. This budget was approved during the final reading in the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Tuesday afternoon, marking an increase from the current budget of PHP4.2 billion.
According to Philippines News Agency, Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. expressed that the budget would facilitate the realization of development programs under the ‘MoRProGRes Iloilo’ initiative. This initiative aims to enhance quality health and social services, drive economic growth, ensure food security, build resilient infrastructure, and protect the environment. Governor Defensor extended his gratitude to Vice Governor Nathalie Ann Debuque for the early budget approval, emphasizing the importance of starting 2026 with momentum.
Governor Defensor highlighted the focus on a developmental budget to address significant infrastructure needs and other essential programs. He emphasized the province’s capacity to support these endeavors comprehensively. Appropriation Ordinance 2025-03 outlines that the General Fund will be sourced from the total tax revenue of PHP281.5 million, non-tax revenue of PHP152.5 million, and external sources totaling PHP5.09 billion.
The funding for the local economic enterprise will come from non-tax revenue amounting to PHP683.6 million and external sources exceeding PHP666.01 million.
