Iloilo City: The city government is set to engage with public utility companies on Tuesday to implement the removal of overhead wires along Diversion Road. The deadline for this initiative is slated for January 16.
According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Jerry Tre±as emphasized the city’s commitment to ensuring compliance with the ordinance mandating the relocation of overhead wires underground along Aquino Avenue. The Iloilo City Regulation Ordinance 2023-006 requires that all wires and cables within plaza complexes, Sunburst Park, B.S. Aquino Avenue, and heritage sites be placed underground.
In recent developments, the City Engineer’s Office took action last week by removing tangled wires and poles along JM Basa Street after the December 31 deadline was missed. This action underscores the city’s determination to enforce the ordinance.
Furthermore, Mayor Tre±as met with PLDT executives to discuss delays in addressing internet connection issues caused by overhead lines on JM Basa Street. Tre±as stressed the necessity for an immediate resolution, stating that residents and subscribers deserve clarity regarding the inconvenience.
Tre±as has demanded a written apology from PLDT Panay/Palawan head Dane Macapagal to the affected subscribers. The mayor warned that he would seek Macapagal’s resignation if the apology was not delivered by 5 p.m., underscoring the importance of accountability in serving the people of Iloilo City.
