Iloilo City: The city government here will discuss with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) a possible partial turnover of the newly-opened Iloilo Sunset Boulevard to ensure its maintenance. Engr. Neil Ravena, head of the General Services Office, emphasized the need to establish rules and guidelines, including anti-littering measures, regulations on the consumption of alcoholic drinks, and the management of activities in the area.

According to Philippines News Agency, instructions have also been received from Mayor Jerry Tre±as to install waste bins and plants along the boulevard. Ravena highlighted that the Sunset Boulevard is a unique infrastructure, combining a road and a linear park. The road component is equally wide as the pedestrian and bike lanes and includes a planting strip.

Spanning five kilometers from Iloilo City to the adjacent municipality of Oton, the boulevard requires collaborative efforts for its management. Ravena stated that the Environment and Natural Resources Officer of Oton is coordinating with him, and they have agreed on the use of uniform planting materials and waste management practices.

Ravena has deployed teams to address garbage disposal and beautification, ensuring the care of plants along the boulevard. He stressed the importance of community ownership and responsibility in maintaining the cleanliness and beauty of Sunset Boulevard, urging residents to protect and cherish the infrastructure.

The Sunset Boulevard opened to vehicular traffic on January 24 and was made accessible to joggers in June of the previous year.
