Ilocos Norte Urges Taxpayers to Avail Tax Amnesty Before July 2026 Deadline

Ilocos norte: The provincial government of Ilocos Norte is urging taxpayers to take advantage of a tax amnesty on real property tax before the deadline of July 5, 2026, to avoid incurring penalties and interest.

According to Philippines News Agency, Acting Provincial Treasurer Noralyn Boque has informed landowners that they can visit their local city or municipal treasurer's office, or the Office of the Provincial Treasurer at the new provincial capitol building, to settle their tax obligations. Boque stated that if taxpayers are unable to pay their unpaid taxes in full, they are allowed to make installment payments until the deadline.

The tax amnesty program, as explained by Boque, removes penalties, surcharges, and interest, requiring payment only of the principal amount. This initiative aims to encourage taxpayers to settle their dues without the burden of additional financial penalties.

Failure to comply with the July 5, 2026 deadline will result in the imposition of penalties, and there is a possibility that properties may be auctioned to enforce payment of outstanding taxes. The provincial government has implemented this measure in line with Republic Act 12001, also known as the Real Property Valuation and Assessment Reform Act, which was signed into law by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on June 13, 2024.

The amnesty covers unpaid real property taxes and special levies for years preceding 2024. By waiving accumulated penalties, surcharges, and interest, the program addresses common obstacles that prevent taxpayers from settling their accounts.
