Riyadh: Thirteen civilians were injured in ballistic missile and drone attacks carried out by Yemen's Houthi group on three Saudi cities, the Saudi-led coalition said early Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki stated that the attacks targeted Khamis Mushait, Abha, and Taif on Monday, resulting in minor to moderate injuries among the victims. In addition to the human toll, seven homes and two vehicles sustained damage from the assaults.

Al-Malki accused the Houthis of deliberately targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure and emphasized that the coalition would take measures to deter further attacks under the right to self-defense. The statement followed comments from Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree, who reported that Saudi warplanes had conducted 54 strikes across five Yemeni provinces in the previous 24 hours.

Saree noted that F-15 and Typhoon fighter jets were used in these strikes and warned that they "would not go unanswered." Earlier on Monday, the Houthis also claimed responsibility for a large-scale missile and drone attack on King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait, further threatening to expand operations against Saudi Arabia.

The confrontations between Yemen's internationally recognized government forces and the Houthis have intensified since early July after years of relative calm. The conflict in Yemen has been ongoing since the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and several provinces in 2014, prompting a Saudi-led Arab coalition to intervene in 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government.
