Manila: House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander 'Sandro' Marcos of Ilocos Norte on Wednesday said the House leadership remains in close coordination with lawmakers from areas affected by the recent earthquake in Mindanao to determine what assistance may be needed. Marcos made the assurance as national and local authorities continue to assess the impact of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off the coast of Sarangani on June 8.
According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos emphasized the importance of maintaining communication with those impacted to ensure that the House leadership provides all possible aid to affected countrymen. He stated that the type of assistance would be based on the needs identified by local officials and communities, ranging from Medical Assistance to Indigent and Financially Incapacitated Patients (MAIP) to medical aid and the distribution of relief goods.
Speaker Faustino 'Bojie' Dy III has already visited General Santos City and Sarangani province to evaluate the situation and collaborate with local authorities. During his visit, the Speaker inspected important facilities, including the General Santos International Airport, and held meetings with local leaders as part of the House's ongoing response efforts.
The powerful earthquake caused significant damage to infrastructure and homes in Southern Mindanao, leading to evacuations and comprehensive damage assessments. Marcos reassured that the House is committed to supporting affected areas as recovery efforts progress.
