Manila: Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressed support for nominating President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, contingent on his successful mediation to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict without Ukraine conceding territory to Russia.
According to Philippines News Agency, Clinton made the remarks during a podcast discussion, coinciding with a meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. She emphasized that a peace deal should include a ceasefire, no territorial exchanges, and a phased withdrawal of Russian forces from occupied Ukrainian territories.
Clinton stated her willingness to nominate Trump for the prestigious award if he could facilitate such an agreement, stressing the importance of not enabling Russian territorial ambitions. She highlighted the potential for Trump to stand against Putin, thereby safeguarding both Ukrainian sovereignty and broader security interests.
Trump responded to Clinton’s comments, describing them as “very nice” and humorously suggesting a possible reconciliation with her.
