Habagat Brings Rains to Western Visayas and Luzon Due to Typhoon Domeng

Manila: The southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, intensified by Typhoon Domeng, is set to bring rains to Western Visayas and most parts of Luzon, as reported by the weather bureau on Monday. According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecast scattered rains and thunderstorms across areas including Western Visayas, Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, and Mimaropa. The rainfall in these regions could be moderate to heavy, potentially leading to flash floods or landslides. Other parts of the country are expected to experience isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms. PAGASA also indicated that the habagat and the surrounding areas of Typhoon Domeng will bring strong to gale-force winds over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Panay Island, and Negros Occidental. Extreme northern Luzon could see moderate to strong winds alongside moderate to rough sea conditions. Mariners of small sea craft, including all types of motor bancas, are advised against venturing out to sea under these conditions, according to PAGASA. Typhoon Domeng has maintained its strength, with maximum sustained winds of 130 km per hour near the center and gusts of up to 160 kph. It is located 655 km east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes as of 4 a.m., moving north northwestward at 15 kph. PAGASA forecasts that Domeng will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility within the day. Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Sunday that Typhoon Domeng has so far affected 17,059 families in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). In its latest situation report, the NDRRMC noted that these families, amounting to 82,295 individuals, are residents of 37 barangays within the BARMM. Despite the impact, the council assured the public that no evacuations are currently necessary. Furthermore, there have been no reported casu alties or damages related to the weather disturbance.
