Cebu: The Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID), based at Camp Gen Macario Peralta Jr. in Jamindan, Capiz, is actively engaged in a humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR) mission in Cebu, which has been severely affected by Typhoon Tino. The 3ID’s efforts are crucial in supporting the recovery of the impacted communities.
According to Philippines News Agency, the HADR mission, led by the Joint Task Group Cebu in coordination with the 53rd Engineer Brigade, encompasses various critical activities. These include clearing operations, unloading of relief goods, and conducting search and retrieval missions. From November 13 to 18, the team also facilitated the transport of a cadaver, highlighting the extensive range of activities undertaken as part of their mission.
The clearing operations were carried out in multiple areas, including Barangay Cotcot in Liloan, Barangay Poblacion in Talisay City, and Barangay Buluang in Compostela. In Barangay Cabadiangan, Compostela, search and retrieval operations were conducted, along with the sensitive task of transporting a cadaver.
Maj. Gen. Michael Samson, the commander of 3ID, emphasized the division’s commitment not just as a mission but as a pledge to the people of Cebu. He praised the dedication and effort of the troops, acknowledging their critical role in the disaster response activities. “I commend our troops for their tireless efforts in the face of adversity. Their courage and compassion reflect the true spirit of service, placing the welfare of the people above all else, being present, being dependable, and being ready to act when our communities need us most,” Samson stated.
He further assured that the troops will remain in Cebu until the province has fully recovered, underlining the army’s commitment to supporting the affected communities for as long as necessary.
