Manila: The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has confirmed ongoing efforts by Philippine authorities to bring home 26 Filipino seafarers who were aboard the bulk carrier Gingo during an attack while it was docked in Ukraine on September 2.

According to Philippines News Agency, as of September 4, 2026, all 26 Filipino crew members have safely disembarked from the vessel. They remain unharmed and are currently awaiting transit to Moldova, prior to their repatriation to the Philippines. The DMW noted that the Philippine Embassy in Warsaw, alongside the Honorary Consul in Kyiv and the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Prague, is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating the seafarers' return.

Labor Attach© Llewelyn Perez emphasized the ongoing collaboration between the Philippine diplomatic missions and relevant authorities to complete the necessary documentation for the seafarers' return. "The Philippine Embassy and the Philippine Consulate in Kyiv are coordinating with the relevant authorities, in partnership with the shipowner, to facilitate the processing of their travel documents," she stated.

The DMW also mentioned that the seafarers' immediate needs are being addressed in coordination with their licensed manning agency and the shipowner. The agency reassures the families that it is committed to ensuring the crew's safe return, in collaboration with the Philippine embassy, consulate, and the MWO.
