‘Gorio’ Exits Philippine Area of Responsibility

Batanes: Tropical Cyclone Gorio, internationally known as Podul, has officially exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) confirmed this development in its 5 p.m. bulletin on Wednesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Gorio has slightly weakened, with maximum sustained winds recorded at 140 kilometers per hour near its center and gustiness reaching up to 230 kilometers per hour. As of 4 p.m., the cyclone was positioned 325 kilometers northwest of Itbayat, Batanes.

Currently, no tropical cyclone wind signal is in effect. However, the southwest monsoon, enhanced by Gorio, is expected to bring strong to gale-force gusts across Batanes and Babuyan Islands. Additionally, Batanes will continue to experience heavy rainfall due to the cyclone’s impact.

PAGASA has advised that rough seas will persist over the seaboards of Batanes. Mariners operating small seacraft, including all types of motorboats, are being cautioned against venturing out to sea.

The weather bureau also forecasts that Gorio will continue to weaken as it interacts with the terrain of Taiwan and mainland China.
