Eastern Visayas: Flooding and a landslide led to the closure on Thursday of some road sections in parts of Samar and Leyte provinces, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported.
According to Philippines News Agency, the affected roads are in the villages of Malinao, San Pablo, and Mabuhay in Taft, Eastern Samar. These sections are impassable to all vehicles due to floods estimated to be around 100 centimeters deep as of Thursday noon. Additionally, a landslide occurred along the same road in Binaloan village in Taft town, resulting in the closure of half of the road. These road segments are part of the Wright-Taft-Borongan Road, which is a crucial connection between Samar and Eastern Samar.
The DPWH Eastern Samar district engineering office stated that its field personnel are actively monitoring road conditions and advised the traveling public to exercise caution due to the current weather conditions. Motorists are encouraged to use the Junction Buenavista-Lawaan-Marabut Road as an alternate route.
In Leyte, flooding has also caused disruptions. A road section in Liberty village, Mayorga, has been closed due to a flood estimated to be 0.40 meters deep. This road is part of the highway linking Luzon to Mindanao. The designated alternate route is the Mayorga-Lapaz-Javier-Bito-Abuyog Road. Additionally, a one-meter flood has closed the road in Payao village, Villaba, along the Calubian-San Isidro-Tabango-Villaba-Palompon Road.
In San Miguel, Leyte, the DPWH successfully cleared a 150-cubic-meter landslide debris in Pinarigusan village after three hours. This road serves as an alternate route from this city to Carigara town and Ormoc City.
